Devlog #1 — Project Start
I’m starting development on AnimalD, a small animal simulation project in Unity.
The main idea behind the project is to create a simple environment where players can interact with animals and take care of their needs. I want each animal to feel like its own system, with values like hunger, happiness, and health that change over time.
The early focus of development is building a stable foundation: animal data systems, interaction mechanics (feeding and playing), UI elements that follow the animals, animations, and a basic save system. Right now, the priority is stability and functionality rather than visual polish.
This project is also a learning experience for improving my Unity workflow, code structure, and system design. I’m building the project in a modular way so new animals and features can be added easily later.
Current features:
- Animals have their own Animal Info
- Animals can breed and create offspring of the same type
- Animals have stats:
- Hunger (can be reduced by feeding)
- Happiness (can be increased by playing)
- Health (affected by overall condition)
- Animals have animations
- Animals can be traded online with friends
- Animals can appear as Shiny (Gold) versions
- Additional rare variations are planned
